News & Information

Our goal is to provide as much information to our farmers, ranchers, landowners, agribusinesses, non-farm orientated citizens, students, and future email subscribers in the quickest, cheapest, and most efficient way.  Issuing press releases and regular newsletters fulfill our minimal requirements in publicizing information, but as we have learned over the years, it's not enough. The Logan County E-News will be published periodically and used solely to compliment the other avenues of our information dissemination needs.  Subscription is free and the advice is still cheap.  We do not discriminate.  If you know someone that wants to subscribe, share this E-News with them.  If you know someone is not getting their E-News, they should contact our office or check with their Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Email provider and flag the Logan County E-News as "non-spam" or "acceptable".  Every time we issue E-News publications, we receive several returned messages due to the security filters your ISP uses.

2012 Crop Certification Deadline

*July 15th is the deadline to certify your crops and CRP*

All crops are required to be certified by July 15th.  Filing an accurate and timely acreage report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage, can prevent loss of benefits for farm programs (MAL’s, DCP, ACRE, CRP, SURE).

v  CRP participants must annually certify CRP acreage and approved cover has been maintained

2011 ACRE Production Deadline

*July 15th is the deadline to turn in ACRE Production*

ACRE Production must be turned into the office by close of business on July 15th.  Please keep in mind we need yield information on net bushel amounts for the 2011 crop year.  Please contact the office if you have questions.

Unauthorized mowing of CRP: April 15th - August 1st

Unauthorized treatment on CRP acres such as mowing, spraying, and burning, during the primary nesting or brood rearing season, April 15th – August 1st, is strictly prohibited.  Noncompliance situations result in payment reductions or contract terminations which can be very costly.

County FSA Committee (COC) Election

June 15 through August 1, 2012, is the period for nominating farmers and ranchers as candidates for the local COC election. FSA encourages all eligible producers to nominate themselves, or another eligible producer, to run for office. Nomination forms (FSA-669-A’s) are available:

·           at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/elections, and scroll down to the links under “Election Materials” and CLICK “2012 Nomination Form

·           by picking up FSA-669A at your local FSA office

·           by calling or office and requesting FSA-669A be sent to you.

Producer and landowners that are eligible to vote in LAA #2 and who participate or cooperate in FSA programs and are of legal voting age may be nominated to participate in the upcoming County FSA Committee Elections this fall.  Also, organizations representing socially disadvantaged minorities or under-represented groups may also nominate candidates.  Townships in LAA #2 are Eminence, Atlanta, East Lincoln, Oran, Chester, and Aetna.

This is an important time for LAA communities, because county committee members make decisions that have significant effects on you and the area’s agricultural sector as a whole.  Stop in the office in Lincoln, for details on the types of decisions county committee members make.  Or visit the County Committee Elections website to learn more about the County Committee Election process and read over the fact sheets at LINK.

Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters by Nov. 5, 2012.   Dec. 3, 2012 is the last day to return voted ballots to the county office.  Newly elected committee members and alternates take office Jan.1, 2013.  A listing of eligible voters is available for public viewing on our front counter.

1 – Corn (136,700 acres)

2 – Oats (60,000 acres)

3 – Wheat (53,200 acres)

4 – Hay (28,400 acres)

5 – Soybeans (5,000 acres)

No successful guesses this time.  Thanks for all who participated though!
