Happy Hollow to offer free family entertainment

[July 21, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- After years of being referred to as "The Jungle," Happy Hollow is regaining its former name.

Happy Hollow at the state fairgrounds is located just inside the Main Gate, behind the Illinois Building, and will offer "family fun for everyone" daily from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Illinois State Fair Aug 9-19.

The entertainment includes:

  • The Movie Stunt Adventure Show, an interactive attraction where fairgoers get a chance to star. Shows are scheduled at 12:05, 2:25, 4:45 and 7:05 p.m.

  • The Skin & Bones Comedy Circus, a show featuring a husband-and-wife duo and their animal co-stars. Shows will be at 12:40 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.

  • Team Rock Martial Arts, an action-packed show including airborne martial arts, self-defense and power breaking. Showtimes are 1:15, 3:35 and 5:55 p.m.

  • Top Hogs, an interesting, comedic trick pig show that has entertained audiences throughout the United States since 1991. Shows will be at 11 a.m., 3:35 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

  • The West Texas Rattlesnake Show. "Rattlesnake Dave" and his slithery friends will perform at 11:30 a.m., 1:50 p.m. and 4:10 p.m.

Another addition to Happy Hollow is The Sports Court, with exciting activities for all ages.

  • Aug. 11 -- CrossFit Throwdown, with competition open to three-athlete teams in four categories: RX men, RX women, scaled men and scaled women. There also will be a masters 55-plus individual competition. The first heat starts at 9 a.m.

  • Aug. 12 and 18 -- 3-on-3 tournaments hosted by Illinois Basketball Services. Registration forms are available online at www.ibsrecruiting.com and www.illinoisstatefair.info.
