[July 26, 2012]  LONDON (AP) -- British Sky Broadcasting has reported a 12 percent increase in full-year net profit boosted by strong take-up of its offerings of television, broadband and telephone service.

The company, effectively controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. through a 39 percent stake, said Thursday that after-tax profit for the year ending June 30 was 906 million pounds ($1.4 billion), up from 810 million pounds a year earlier.

Revenue was up 3 percent to 6.79 billion pounds.

BSkyB says it added 312,000 households to its customer base during the year, taking the total to 10.6 million. The company reported a 12 percent increase in the number of subscriptions to individual products, including line rental and high-definition television.

BSkyB shares were up 1.2 percent at 693 pence in morning trading.
