 In
the afternoon, this front will reach eastern Colorado, where it will meet abundant moisture in a combination that should result in a line of thunderstorms developing. Some thunderstorm cells within this line will contain damaging winds and large hail, but the storms were expected to be short-lived. Northern Texas will also see an area of intense thunderstorms with heavy rainfall on Wednesday. These storms will hold together for a long time and have the potential to cause some flooding problems.
Thunderstorms were also anticipated throughout the Northeast and the coast of the Gulf of Mexico as a deep trough in the
jet stream sets up conditions ripe for thunderstorm development. This thunderstorm activity will be most widespread throughout the southern Appalachians and from the Great Lakes to Cape Cod. These storms will flare up in the afternoon and should diminish when the sun sets.
In addition to the thunderstorm activity in the East, temperatures are expected to be somewhat cooler than normal for early June.
In the South, storms are expected for much of the day from northern Florida through Texas.
In the West, typical springtime weather continues, with strong winds along the coast and clear skies with warm temperatures inland. The coast should remain free of fog for the most part.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 26 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif., to a high of 100 degrees at Beeville, Texas.
