The award was established to honor individuals and organizations in
the counties of Cass, Christian, Greene, Jersey, Logan, Macoupin,
Mason, Menard, Montgomery, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott that work in
the field of aging or on behalf of older adults or family
caregivers. Achievements that could be recognized include
adaptation or revision of programs or services to meet the current
needs of older adults and their family members; public education
regarding services and benefits available to the older population;
formal education of future workers in the field; identification of
an unmet need and working to fill that need; creativity in service
provision to reach people in need of the service; advocacy or
legislation; outstanding service to the older population; and
community adaptation to help older adults remain in their own homes
in the community as long as possible.
The award is named for the late Dorothy S. Kimball, who served as
executive director of the Area Agency on Aging for over 25 years.
