[June 09, 2012]  LEWISTOWN -- At Dickson Mounds Museum on Saturday and Sunday, the Mackinaw Valley Longrifle Association will be camped for a weekend Spring Rendezvous.

Members of the group will be on hand throughout the day to teach visitors about the lifestyles, survival skills and rich cultural history of the 18th- and 19th-century inhabitants of Illinois.

The public is invited to visit the primitive encampment at the museum's picnic hill, engage in blanket trading and knife-hawk throwing, and view demonstrations of wooden spoon carving, fiber arts, fire making with flint and steel, and more. Admission is free.

The Illinois State Museum -- Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana, off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Tours and special programs are available for groups with reservations. For more information, call 309-547-3721 or TTY 217-782-9175, or visit www.museum.state.il.us/ismsites/dickson or www.experienceemiquon.org.
