 A secondary storm will develop over the Carolinas in the late afternoon and evening, further reinforcing the rain along the
Eastern Seaboard and Southeast. Farther to the north, rain and some thunderstorms will press through the Northeast. This will translate to rain in the large cities of the Northeast from the afternoon through the evening.
Meanwhile, moisture streaming into the Plains in the afternoon and evening may produce another round of severe thunderstorms from South Dakota through northern Texas and Oklahoma. Any of these severe thunderstorms could produce a tornado, so residents in the western Plains, northern Texas, and Oklahoma should be prepared to protect life and property and be aware of local weather conditions.
A weak Pacific storm will provide some rain in the Northwest and northern Rockies but will not be widespread or heavy in nature.
Warm to hot conditions are still anticipated in the Southwest, with numerous areas reaching triple digits once again.
The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The
southern Plains and Southwest will rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 106 degrees at San Angelo, Texas.
