[June 14, 2012]  Logan County ScoutSweep will take place Saturday morning. ScoutSweep is an annual event where Scouts lead an effort to pick up trash in Lincoln and Logan County. All Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout units in Logan County as well as their families and the public are invited to participate.

This year's ScoutSweep is Scout-led for the first time. The coordinator is Caleb Papach, 17-year-old senior patrol leader from Lincoln Boy Scout Troop 111. The assistant coordinator is 15-year-old Allan Huff, also from Troop 111. Both Scouts appeared before the Lincoln City Council last week to outline their plans for the event and to ask permission to use trash bins at public facilities to dispose of the trash.

Breakfast will be served during registration, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Latham Park, directly across the street from the library. A flag ceremony at 9 a.m. will kick off the trash pickup, and cleanup will continue until noon, when lunch will be served at Latham Park.

Again this year, all food, drink and supplies were donated from area businesses, with sandwiches from Subway, cookies from Bonanza, orange drink from McDonald’s, breakfast biscuits from Hardee’s, water and chips from Kroger, gas from Beck’s, trash bags from Ameren, and more. The public is encouraged to patronize these businesses and let them know how much you appreciate their support of our community.
