[June 15, 2012]  DELAVAN -- It will be a weekend of historical interest when Delavan stages its inaugural Little Crane Creek Civil War re-enactment battle on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1. The drama will unfold at Lake Park on First Street, where both Union and Rebel soldiers will be camped out for the weekend.

In addition to the scheduled battles, the weekend will provide a look into the life of a Civil War soldier in the 1860s. It's an opportunity for people to turn the clock back, walk among the soldiers and talk to them about their lives. Saturday entertainment features a parade at 10 a.m. with President and Mrs. Lincoln, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and re-enactors from across the country.

Currently, Union units planning to attend are the 11th Volunteer Cavalry; 35th Illinois Volunteer Infantry; Corn Fed Comrades; 2nd Illinois Light Artillery, Battery G; Chicago Light Artillery; the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band; and the 108th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, medical attachment. Representing the Confederacy will be the 1st Louisiana Infantry; 8th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry; Scott's Battery; Douglas Battery, 1st Texas Light Artillery; and Battery L, 1st Texas Light Artillery. There will also be units that will send individual soldiers and not the entire unit.

Other featured events are "Songs of the Civil War," by Bob Welch, and Brett Hall with woodworking and Civil War stories.

A food stand offering sandwiches and cold drinks will open at 10 a.m. each day.

All the weekend events are free and open to the public.
