Hartsburg-Emden
FFA members recently participated in the Section 14 FFA public
speaking contest. Meg Meeker won the FFA creed speaking
contest, and Cole Baker won the prepared public speaking contest.
Both will now
advance to district competition on April 4 at Western
Illinois University.

active
region
on the
sun,
Region
1429. It
has let
loose
two
M-class
flares
and one
X-class
so far.
The
M-class
flares
erupted
on
Friday
and
Sunday.
The
third
flare,
rated an
X1,
peaked
at 10:30
ET Sunday.
A
coronal
mass
ejection
accompanied
each
flare,
though
due to
the fact
that
this
active
region
is still
off to
the side
of the
sun,
they
will
likely
have a
weak
effect
on
Earth's
magnetosphere.

The American
Heart
Association is
urging doctors
to talk more
honestly with
people who have
very weak hearts
and are
considering
pumps,
pacemakers, new
valves or
procedures to
open clogged
arteries.
Too often,
patients with
advanced heart
failure don't
realize what
they are getting
into when they
agree to a
treatment, and
doctors assume
they want
everything
possible done to
keep them alive,
says the new
advice,
published
Monday by the
American Heart
Association and
endorsed by
other medical
groups.
Because of the increased risk of contaminated water or
poor living conditions during a disaster or emergency,
the continuation of breastfeeding is especially
important because human breastmilk contains all the
nutrients a baby needs.

The
Zion Lutheran School Lady Eagles eighth-grade basketball team won fourth place in the
Lutheran Sports Association state tournament in Chicago over the weekend.
Pictured above are head coach Todd Koehler, Hailie Williams, Lexie Groves and
assistant coach Bob Cox with the Lady Eagles' state fourth-place trophy. Hailie and
Lexie were both
chosen for the all-tournament
team.
"This is an awesome accomplishment for our small school to compete and have great success against some much larger
schools from throughout Illinois," said Zion Principal Steve Schumacher.
