[March 10, 2012]  Brent Metelko, a freshman from Lincoln Community High School, has qualified for the 16th annual Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Freshman/Sophomore State Championships.

Brent competed in the Morton Regional, consisting of 36 teams, and placed second to Garcia of Peoria.

Wrestlers from 74 area schools competed in the sectionals, and only the top four wrestlers qualify for the state tournament. Brent won three of four bouts to come away with a third-place finish after crushing the regional champion 15-1.

The top 32 freshmen in the state will compete starting early Saturday and continue through Sunday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.
