 This system continues to pull moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico, while also pushing a series of frontal boundaries into the
eastern U.S. Expect rain showers to spread across the Great Lakes as this system moves eastward throughout the day. Cooler temperatures to the north will allow for snow showers to develop across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Just to the south, a warm front that moves over the mid-Mississippi River Valley and up the Ohio River Valley will kick up scattered showers and thunderstorms. These storms have a slight chance of producing severe weather with strong winds, large hail and heavy downpours. The southern side of this system will push a cold front over the
lower Mississippi River Valley. Moisture pouring in ahead of this frontal boundary will allow for scattered storms to pop up across the Southeast. Isolated severe storms may develop in these areas.
Meanwhile in the West, a strong low pressure system in the Pacific Ocean continues pushing a series of disturbances over the Pacific Northwest and northern California. This will bring more rain and mountain snow showers, in addition to strong winds and cool temperatures. The Cascades will see another 3 to 5 inches of new snow, while lighter snow showers are expected in northern California on Friday. Windy conditions will persist across the region, ranging from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday have ranged from a morning low of 14 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 90 degrees at Harlingen, Texas.
