[May 01, 2012]  ST. LOUIS -- Illinois State senior outfielder Liz Andrews was named the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. This selection marks the first career weekly MVC award for Andrews and the seventh for a Redbird this season.

Andrews posted a .545 batting average last week, going 6 for 11 with three doubles, six RBIs and five runs scored. The senior outfielder extended her on-base streak to 11 games with hits in all four contests for ISU last week, including a 2-for-3 effort with three RBIs in an 8-3 win over Creighton Saturday afternoon. The Algonquin native started the week by driving in a pair of runs in the Redbirds' win over Indiana State on Tuesday night. In her last six games, Andrews has raised her batting average 39 points and is hitting a team-best .342. On the season, she leads ISU with 52 hits, 11 doubles and 24 walks.

Andrews and the Redbirds will conclude the regular season this weekend, when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a three-game series with Northern Iowa.
