American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 April meeting notes

[May 02, 2012]  American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 recently had their April meeting at the American Legion in Lincoln.

During the meeting the following was announced:

  • Unit members met on April 25 at the American Legion to work on reports.

  • Anyone wishing to donate to the Marion VA or the Hines VA may contact Suzann Lolling for the address.

  • Lolling also reported on the recent 17th District Junior Spring Conference and the Department Junior Conference.

  • The unit gave its annual donation to Gifts to the Yanks.

  • Currently there are over 1,500 names of veterans for the upcoming balloon launch scheduled for Memorial Day at the local American Legion. Anyone interested in honoring a veteran in this way may contact any unit member.

  • There is no longer an auxiliary representative for donations for veterans. Donations may be delivered or sent to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy -- ATTENTION: VOLUNTEER SERVICES -- at 1707 North St. in Quincy.

Recent events:

  • The Legion Riders Honor Ride was on April 28 at the Chanute Museum in Rantoul.

  • The past president's parley was on April 28 in Washburn.

Upcoming events:

  • The Illini Girls State Tea will be on May 6 in Sibley. All girls attending Girls State are welcome to attend this tea.

  • The annual Poppy Days will be on May 25 and 26. The hours are from noon to 8 p.m. May 25 and from 8 a.m. to noon on May 25. Volunteers are needed.

  • The next unit meeting will be on May 16 at 7 p.m. in the Mary Pat Room at the American Legion. All members are welcome to attend
