[May 05, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- A special Mother's Day tea and program will be offered May 12 at 12:30 p.m. at the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site, 603 S. Fifth St. in Springfield.

The informal afternoon tea will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the debut of a new living history presentation, "Now and Always, Your Katie." This half-hour program is based on the journals, diaries and papers of Vachel's mother, Catherine Frazee Lindsay, and is drawn from the collection of the Schlesinger Library of the History of Women in America at the Radcliffe Institute in Cambridge, Mass. This first-person interpretive program has been researched and will be presented by Vachel Lindsay Home volunteer Sharon Miner.

Advance reservations for this limited seating event at $7 each must be made by calling 217-524-0901. Those who leave reservations by voice mail will receive a follow-up confirmation call.

The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, is the birthplace and longtime residence of poet, author and artist Nicholas Vachel Lindsay, 1879-1931. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for free public tours.
