McEuen will discuss ecosystem services provided by restoration
activities and some basics of prairie ecology and plant
identification. This will be followed by a leisurely walk in search
of spring flowers in the tallgrass prairie restoration sites near
the field station. McEuen is an associate professor in the
University of Illinois Springfield Biology Department, where she
teaches courses in ecology, environmental biology and statistics.
She holds a doctorate in terrestrial ecology and a master's degree
in wildlife ecology from the University of Michigan. Her expertise
is in conservation biology, focusing on plant communities. She and
her students have been studying the tallgrass prairie restoration
that began at Emiquon in 2007.
The field station is located at 11304 N. Prairie Road, near The
Nature Conservancy office.
