Kohl's, Tesla, Smith & Wesson are market movers

[May 11, 2012]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Kohl's Corp., down $2.20 at $48.66

The department store chain said that its first-quarter profit dropped 23 percent as it cut prices on its goods this spring.

The E. W. Scripps Co., up 55 cents at $9.61

An analyst upgraded the media company, which owns local newspapers and local television stations, to a "Buy" rating.

Monster Beverage Corp., up $5.86 at $71.17

The energy drink maker said that its profit climbed 38 percent in the first quarter on better sales, surpassing expectations.

Tesla Motors Inc., up $2.90 at $32.96

The electric car maker said sales fell and its first-quarter loss rose, but its new Model S will be ready earlier than expected.

Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., up 55 cents at $7.36

An analyst initiated coverage of the gun maker with a "Buy" rating saying that more Americans are open to owning a gun.

Priceline.com Inc., down $37.84 at $681.11

The travel site posted a 74 percent jump in first-quarter profits but gave an earnings prediction under Wall Street expectations.

Windstream Corp., down $1.17 at $10.09

The business telecommunications provider's first-quarter net income rose, but it still missed Wall Street's expectations.

News Corp., up 94 cents at $20.32

The global media conglomerate posted better-than-expected quarterly results and doubled its commitment to buying back shares.
