1-car crash on I-55 near Atlanta leaves driver in serious condition

[May 24, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police District 9 released the following accident report at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday:

Incident: one-car serious personal injury crash

Location: Interstate 55 northbound at milepost 140

Date, time: May 23, 7:02 p.m.

Vehicle: 1996 Buick LeSabre, green

Driver: female, 66, Springfield

Assisting agencies: Illinois State Police, Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire and Rescue, Logan County Paramedics

Narrative:

At 7:02 p.m., the Illinois State Police agency was advised of a serious one-car crash on I-55 northbound at milepost 140. A green Buick LeSabre was reported by several witnesses to be driving in an erratic manor. Witnesses said the green Buick drove off the roadway and traveled for approximately two-tenths of a mile in the right-side ditch. The Buick then returned to the roadway, traveling across both northbound lanes before driving off into the center median. The Buick then struck the dirt embankment in the median, ejecting the driver.

The driver was transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal with serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
