Talbots, Sealy, VeriFone are market movers

[May 26, 2012]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Sealy Corp., up 7 cents at $1.68

Shares of mattress makers, including Sealy, jumped after an industry survey found that U.S. mattress sales improved sharply in April.

VeriFone Systems Inc., down $6.97 at $38.03

The electronic payments company said its net income shrank in its fiscal second quarter on acquisition and restructuring costs.

The Talbots Inc., down $1.05 at $1.51

After weeks of talks, private equity firm Sycamore Partners told the women's clothing retailer that it was not ready to buy it.

Carter's Inc., up $1.67 at $54.64

A Citi analyst upgraded shares of the children's clothing seller to a "Buy" rating, citing the company's potential future growth.

Nasdaq

Rue21 Inc., up $1.76 at $28.76

The clothing retailer said its first-quarter profit jumped nearly 21 percent on stronger sales and it raised its full-year outlook.

Mentor Graphics Corp., down $2.01 at $13.20

Shares of the company, which makes software for engineers of chips, fell despite posting a first-quarter profit on better sales.

Maxwell Technologies Inc., down 95 cents at $6.96

A Wedbush analyst downgraded the shares of the maker of energy storage products to "Neutral" from "Outperform," citing competition.

Quest Software Inc., down 3 cents at $25.15

Bloomberg reported that personal computer maker Dell Inc. is in discussions to buy Quest Software, which makes business software.
