 Danosky said the deer had come into the downtown area and at
around 8:30 Thursday morning was in the vicinity of the Cape Landing
Salon on the corner of Broadway and Kickapoo streets.The deer,
presumably spooked by its surroundings, first smashed into a truck,
then apparently startled, ran headlong through the glass doors of
the salon.
The Lincoln police and fire departments were called to the scene.
The deer was found to have made its way to the back of the building,
where it collapsed from its injuries.
Personnel at the Lincoln police station said the animal was in
serious condition and they had no choice but to put it down, and did
so with a bow and arrow.
A call later in the morning to Paula Landess, owner of Cape
Landing, revealed there was no one in the salon at the time of the
incident. Landess said she'd prefer there not be a great deal of
publicity over the matter.
She said the salon was going to need to be thoroughly cleaned,
but other than the front door being broken, there was no major
damage in the business.
