Hinshaw led the Redbirds throughout ISU's four games in the
eight-team tournament, with a .375 average, including three
extra-base hits, four RBIs and six runs scored. The Bloomington,
Ill., native also slugged .813 and amassed a .421 on-base percentage
with two walks. Hinshaw collected a hit in each of Illinois State's
games and finished the season on a team-best eight-game hitting
streak and a nine-game reached-base streak.
Hinshaw was the hero in ISU's come-from-behind, extra-inning victory
against Evansville on Thursday. In the top of the eighth inning, he homered over the left-field wall to pull the Redbirds within one run
of the Purple Aces. Hinshaw then hit his second home run of the day
in the top of the 10th inning, with two outs, to score what proved
to be the winning run. He later went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in ISU's
elimination-loss to Creighton.
The Redbirds finished the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Baseball Championship with a 2-2 record, including two wins against
Evansville and two losses to Creighton. The No. 8-seeded Bluejays
went on to beat No. 6 Southern Illinois for the tournament title
Saturday night.
