Annual Turkey Trot offers fun for all

[November 19, 2012]  BLOOMINGTON -- The city of Bloomington's 34th annual Turkey Trot offers fun for all ages with a run and other festivities in Miller Park on Thanksgiving morning.

A yearly tradition for many individuals and families in the community, the Turkey Trot features a three-mile run with prizes in various age groups from 14 and under to the 65-plus category, a half-mile fun run for ages 8 and under and 9-14, and a 1.5-mile noncompetitive walk.

The Turkey Trot takes place rain, shine or snow.

Registration begins at the Miller Park Pavilion at 8 a.m. on race day, and the first race begins at 9 a.m. It is free to register and participate.

"The Turkey Trot is a wonderful activity for people of all ages and fitness levels," says Denise Balagna, athletics program manager for the city of Bloomington. "It's definitely an event that everyone, even little kids and seniors, can enjoy. It's a wonderful way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday!"

The top three finishers in each race category receive T-shirts, and all participants get a ribbon and are eligible for drawings for frozen turkeys and other raffle prizes.
