City of Lincoln announces new districts for 2013

[November 19, 2012]  The city clerk's office has announced the redistricting of wards within the city of Lincoln for the election of the Lincoln City Council. This redistricting reduces the number of wards within the city from five to four, effective May 1, 2013. This reduction was required by state law as a result of the decrease in population as enumerated by the 2010 U.S. decennial census. Further, the four wards created by the redistricting ordinance are approximately equal in population, according to the census, as is also required by law. See the new ward map above.

The aldermen from each of the new wards will be elected on April 9, 2013, and will begin serving their terms on May 1, 2013. The mayor, city clerk and city treasurer will be nominated, elected and begin their terms on the same dates as the aldermen. A primary election will occur on Feb. 26, 2013, in any race where the number of candidates who file in each primary exceeds the number of officials to be elected.

Questions concerning the boundaries of the new wards should be addressed to the city clerk's office at City Hall or by telephone at 735-2815. Copies of the new ward map may be viewed or obtained at the city clerk's office.
