SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois
Department of Labor is notifying downstate working communities to
submit nominations for individuals who have made significant
contributions toward the safety and health of workers. The
individual selected will receive the Governor's Award for Health and
Safety at the 22nd annual Downstate Illinois Occupational Safety &
Health Day on Feb. 27.

The Department of Labor's Safety Inspection & Education Division
enforces occupational safety and health standards for the Illinois
public sector, provides consultation services to smaller businesses,
and is a member of the DIOSH Day Committee, which highlights the
importance of workplace safety. The 2012 Governor's Award for
Health and Safety was awarded to Michael Connors, former
administrator of Region V of the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration.
Nominations and self-nominations will be accepted and must be
submitted by Jan. 4 to:
