George 'Danny' Gahr

[November 28, 2012]  LINCOLN -- George Daniel "Danny" Gahr, 54, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at his home.

George Daniel (Danny) Gahr passed away November 25, 2012 at his residence.

He was born on August 17, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to George and Sue Gahr. The family moved from Festus, Missouri to Decatur, Illinois when he was still very young. The family moved once again in 1966 to Lincoln, Illinois, where he resided, for the most part, for the remainder of his life. He graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1976, where he was active in marching band, jazz band and theater. He attended Southern Illinois University. He worked for the Verallia North America (St. Gobain Containers) for 28 years.

Danny loved animals, raising and caring for many dogs and cats during his life. He was an accomplished artist and wonderful singer. He enjoyed watching tennis and listening to all kinds of music. He had a knack for fixing things which was greatly appreciated, especially by his father. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He had a kind and generous heart and loved to give where he saw a way to fill a need or bring joy to someone.

Danny enjoyed contemplating the fascinating and the magical in life. He had a curious mind and always wanted to figure things out, which led him to a great love of reading. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he dearly loved. He will be deeply missed by his family, both immediate and extended, and many other friends who knew him and loved him throughout his life.

Danny is preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by two sisters Patti (Dan) Becker of Lincoln and Becky (Bruce) Davidson of Rainier, WA, one brother, Bruce Gahr of Lincoln, his dear friend Lois Lee of Glen Carbon, and his nieces and nephews George Zachary (Tara) Gahr of Normal, Emily Gahr of Indianapolis, Indiana, Hilary Becker of Champaign, and Aaron Becker of Lincoln.

Donations in Danny's memory may be made to the Logan County Humane Society.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4-6 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. A brief memorial service will be held at 6 PM.

He will be laid to rest beside his parents in New Union Cemetery at a later date.
