[October 03, 2012]  BLOOMINGTON -- Miller Park Zoo is home to a large variety of birds of nearly every shape, color and size. But a different and pretty unique bird will be at the zoo on Sunday: Reggie Redbird.

As part of Illinois State University's homecoming celebration, Reggie Redbird will join his feathered friends at the Miller Park Zoo on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Reggie will be on hand for pictures. Zookeepers will also have some special things planned for the birds at the zoo, including a bald eagle feeding, and the zoo's barn owl and screech owls on display

Three-time Illinois State alum Mike Lockett will also be on hand, telling animal-themed stories for children at the Rainforest Theatre.

Reggie Redbird Day is an opportunity for guests to learn about the diverse collection of birds that can be seen at the zoo, including the bald eagle, green aracari, kookaburra and burrowing owl, in addition to the 27 species of birds in the Tropical America Rainforest exhibit.

For more information, call the zoo at 309-434-2250 or visit http://4.17.232.139/parks/
