[October 04, 2012]  At 11:19 p.m. Wednesday, the Lincoln Fire Department was dispatched to 65 Gavin for a reported structure fire. On arrival firefighters found the home heavily charged with smoke, and fire visible to the rear of the structure. Lincoln firefighters quickly made entry and with two 1 3/4-inch hand lines contained the blaze.

The homeowner escaped unharmed, thanks to a neighbor who discovered the fire, awoke the occupant and called 911.

Damage to the structure is estimated at $115,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

A total of 25 firefighters responded to the scene from Lincoln, Lincoln Rural, Atlanta and Mount Pulaski fire departments. Other responding agencies were the Lincoln Police Department and Logan County Paramedic Association.

Lincoln Fire Department representatives commented, "We would like to thank all responding agencies for their assistance."
