Illinois grain prices in country elevators

[October 06, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- This is Friday's report of the grain prices and trends, prepared by the USDA and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Illinois country grain prices were mostly lower on Friday afternoon.

Corn futures weakened due to harvest pressure and poor export interest.

In Northern and Western Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids mostly 4 to 9 cents lower at 7.22-7.39.

Soybean bids were mixed at 15.18-15.33.

In Central Illinois country grain dealers quoted shelled corn bids were 9 cents lower at 7.37-7.55.

Soybean bids were 1 cent lower at 15.31-15.46.

In the Southern part of the state, shelled corn bids were mostly 7 to 9 cents lower at 7.44-7.63.

Soybean bids were mostly steady at 15.22-15.41.

Wheat bids were mostly 11 to 15 cents lower at 8.21-8.41.

Illinois grains-Grain futures ended mixed at the Chicago Board of Trade, with corn and wheat higher and soybeans ending lower.

Corn prices still used the support from the USDA's Quarterly Grain Stock report, with the lower than expected stocks of 988 million bushels.

Fund and technical selling at the Board of Trade helped to push soybean futures lower, with the talk of higher than expected soybean yields weighing on prices.

Harvest progress was again very good this week, with some heavy rainfall in the southern regions of the state over last weekend limiting harvest in those areas. According to the USDA's Illinois Weather and Crops report, from the Illinois Field Office in Springfield, the Illinois corn harvest had
reached 71% complete, compared to 29% last year and 33% for the five year average.

The southern and central regions are still ahead in the corn harvest competition with 74-93% harvested, with the northern regions ranging from 32-39% complete.

The soybean crop was now 22% harvested in the state of Illinois, compared to 10% last year and 21% for the five year average.

The northern regions of the state may be behind in the corn harvest competition, but they lead the state with the soybean harvest.

The northern regions are 41-48% complete with soybean harvest, with the rest of the state ranging from 12-23% complete.

The trading in the cash grain market was moderate.

Cash basis weakened this week at the
processors, but lower barge freight helped to push river basis up.

The Central Illinois Soybean Processors cash bids ended 20 to 30 cents lower at 15.51-15.66, with basis steady to10 cents
lower ranging from option X to +15X.

The Central Illinois Corn Processors cash bids were up 31 to 34 cents ranging from 7.60-7.72, with basis down 7 to 10 cents ranging from +3Z to +15Z.

At the Illinois River terminals south of Peoria, cash corn bids ended 47 to 52 cents higher ranging from 7.42-7.49, with basis up 11 to 17 cents at -15Z to -8Z.

Cash soybean bids lost 8 to 17 cents at
15.43-15.46, with basis up 3 to 12 cents ranging from -8X to -5X.

Corn bids for January 2013 delivery gained 36 to 37 cents to range from 7.60-7.66, with basis down 1 to 2 cents at +3H to +9H.

Soybeans for January 2013 delivery ended 19 to 24 cents weaker ranging from 15.65-15.71, with basis mixed at +14F to +20F.

New crop wheat bids for delivery in July 2013 ended 12 to 17 cents higher ranging from 8.12-8.14, with basis up 4 to 8 cents at -32N to -30N.

At the Illinois River terminals north of Peoria, cash corn bids gained 36 to 38 cents to 7.37-7.44, with basis down 3 to 5 cents at -20Z to -13Z.

Cash soybean bids were down 19 to 24 cents to 15.37-15.42, with basis mixed ranging from -14X to -9X.

Corn bids for January 2013 delivery gained 37 cents ranging from 7.58-7.60, with basis 1 cent lower ranging from +1H to +3H.

Soybean bids for January 2013 delivery were down 18 to 20 cents ranging from 15.63-15.67, with basis steady to 2 cents higher at
+12F to +16F.

New crop wheat bids for July 2013 delivery gained 8 to 12 cents to range from 8.08-
8.19, with basis steady to up 4 cents at -36N to -25N.

At the St. Louis terminals cash corn bids
were 35 to 48 cents higher at 7.17-7.50, with soybeans down 12 to 14 cents ranging from 15.55-15.62.

Cash bids for Soft Red Winter wheat increased 9 cents to 8.28-8.29 and cash sorghum bids were 40 cents higher to range from 7.06-7.07.

In northern and western Illinois, cash corn bids to producers at country elevators were 39 to 41 cents higher at 7.24-7.47, with central Illinois locations up 36 to 37 cents at 7.46-7.64 and in southern Illinois bids gained 44 to 55 cents to range from 7.57-7.72.

Cash soybean bids in northern and western locations were down 11 to 21 cents at 15.16-15.39 with central Illinois bids losing 19 cents at 15.32-15.47 and southern Illinois bids were 19 to 20 cents lower at 15.22-15.48.

Cash wheat bids for Soft Red Winter wheat in southern Illinois locations increased 25 to 26 cents to 8.34-8.62.

Corn bids for January 2013 delivery at the country elevators in northern and western Illinois gained 42 to 47 cents to range from 7.37-7.53, with central Illinois locations up 34 to 38 cents at 7.54-7.77 and in southern Illinois bids were 39 to 44 cents higher and ranged from 7.52-7.85.

January 2013 delivery soybean bids in northern and western Illinois were down 16 to 18 cents at 15.27-15.41, while central Illinois locations fell 20 to 21 cents ranging from 15.42-15.58 and in southern Illinois
bids dropped 20 to 21 cents ranging from 15.36-15.64.

New crop wheat bids for June-July 2013
delivery in southern Illinois ended 2 to 6 cents higher at 7.88-8.14.
