[September 29, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- Memorial Medical Center's Hearing Center will offer free hearing screenings in October, which is National Audiology Awareness Month.

Hearing loss tends to be gradual and some may not immediately notice it, according to Lori Faber, a certified clinical audiologist at Memorial's Hearing Center.

"You may feel others are mumbling or you're having difficulty understanding speech in noisy places. A hearing screening tells us if there is an actual hearing loss and if further diagnostic testing is needed," Faber said.

Screenings are available by appointment only at the Hearing Center, 644 N. Second St. in Springfield. Appointments can be made by calling 217-788-3767 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
