The scene was pretty in pink Tuesday night in
Mount Pulaski as the Lady Toppers hosted the Sangamon
Valley Storm in the 2012 Volley for the Cure.
The evening kicked off with
a barbecue sandwich dinner and games and prizes for all ages. Fans were
also given the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and win prizes
donated by local businesses and families of both communities.
While volleyball may have
been the main sport, it took on a supporting
role as the focus was truly about helping others in their fight to
beat cancer.
Sue Reeter, Mount Pulaski
High School cook and
longtime volunteer for the event, received a well-deserved standing
ovation for her work coordinating the evening, which raised over
$3,300.
That money was presented to
three people from the communities of Mount Pulaski and Sangamon
Valley. While both teams were winners on this evening in the fight
against cancer, on the court Mount Pulaski did earn the volleyball
victory over Sangamon Valley 25-11 and 25-10.
