Elyse McCormick October Senior-of-the-Month at Mount Pulaski High School

[October 20, 2012]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Elyse McCormick has been named October Senior-of-the-Month at Mount Pulaski High School. Elyse is the daughter of Mark and Heidi McCormick of Mount Pulaski.

During high school Elyse has been active in National Honor Society, serving as co-vice president her junior year and co-president this year. She is a three-year member of student council, serving as treasurer in her junior year and vice president this year. She was the class secretary her junior year. Elyse has participated in Spanish Club and Drama Club all four years of high school. She was a member of the volleyball team her freshman and sophomore years.

Elyse is a two-year member of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering team and was a state qualifier in biology last year. She is a four-year member of the Science Olympiad team, receiving first place in ornithology her freshman and sophomore years and second place in microbiology her junior year. She is a four-year member of the Scholastic Bowl team and was named to the All Tomahawk Conference Team.

Elyse has been involved in music throughout high school. She is a four-year band member, a two-year member of the MPHS Pop Choir and was named an Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Musician. In the community, she has participated in Community Band and Community Choir.

Elyse has been an active member of Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church's youth group, ZLYFE. She has taught Sunday school and taught music for Vacation Bible School. She is a youth adviser to the Central Illinois District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Youth Ministry Board.

Elyse plans to attend college and major in biological sciences.

The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson's Food Center and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $50 and are eligible to compete for the $500 Senior-of-the-Year award.
