Last year Lincoln Daily News
learned that the Lincoln Fire Department gives the children this valuable training on a very meager budget. Because the department
doesn't have a lot of money to work with on this program, they had
nothing to offer children as a fun, take-home, educational tool.
LDN worked with the department to put together
an educational coloring book that could be given to the children. LDN provided the design, and the book was printed by Brickey
Photography in Lincoln. The project was funded through some
very generous sponsorships from local businesses. Thus, when
all was said and done, LDN, on behalf of itself and other Lincoln
businesses, was able to give coloring books to the fire department
free of charge, which the department in turn has been able to give
to all the children from kindergarten through third grade in all of

Tripplett explains the book to the kids,
telling them he wants them to take it home and use it as a tool to
show mom and dad things they should know about fire safety.

He showed them the book has pages that provide important information
and pages that can also be colored to
their liking. |

oxygen tank.

He showed them how he puts on his oxygen mask.

He and Tripplett also talked about how the
oxygen makes strange noises and also alters the firefighter's voice.
|
The kids were very attentive throughout the
lessons. When the firefighters were all finished, Ms. Elsas
and her class settled in to spending the rest of the day on their
regular schoolwork. |
