ZLS Lady Eagles are champs

[October 31, 2012]  The Zion Lutheran School Lady Eagles eighth-grade basketball team won the Logan County Athletic and Music Association tournament on Monday at West Lincoln-Broadwell School. The Lady Eagles defeated West Lincoln-Broadwell in the championship game by the score of 38-36.

Hailie Williams, who was double-teamed throughout the game, led Zion with 17 points, including five key points in the final seconds. Katie Hunsley was also in double figures, with 11 points. Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Brooklyn Hermes with six and Anna Sielaff with four. Hermes, who eventually fouled out, was forced to sit much of the second half due to foul trouble.

Zion defeated Mount Pulaski Grade School 45-15 in the semifinal game on Saturday. Scoring for ZLS were Anna Sielaff 15, Brooklyn Hermes 9, Hailie Williams 8, Tori Tripplett 8, Katie Hunsley 2, Lauren Canady 2 and Gabbie Cox 1.

The Lady Eagles' record is now 9-2.
