Olympia FFA Alumni Chapter August meeting notes

[September 05, 2012]  STANFORD -- The Olympia High School FFA Alumni Chapter, which draws members from parts of Logan, DeWitt, Woodford, Tazewell and McLean counties, had its most recent chapter meeting on Aug. 23 in the high school ag room, with Sharon Hartzold presiding.

Carrie Glaser gave the secretary's report and Michelle Ott gave the treasurer's report.

The chapter wishes Corrine Brown good luck on her new job as a horticulture professor at Illinois Central College in East Peoria.

The chapter welcomed Emma Meyer from Lexington as the new vo-ag teacher for the upcoming year. Meyer's father is Don Meyer, who was the longtime unit leader in the University of Illinois Extension Bloomington office for McLean County.

Meyer gave a report on recent FFA chapter activities and talked about upcoming FFA and classroom activities and her schedule for this semester.

Hartzold talked about a "wish list" Meyer has for the ag classroom and shop and discussed the FFA jackets for first-year FFA members. The alumni chapter may help pay for a part of the cost of those jackets.

The first home football game was Aug. 24. The alumni chapter helped cook and serve pork chop and rib-eye sandwiches with the high school FFA chapter.

Dates have been tentatively been set for the FFA's annual alumni auction and dinner on Feb. 1 and the FFA chapter banquet on March 16.

The chapter recognized Curt Glaser of Danvers and his wife, Peg, as they were the grand marshals of Danvers Days. The group also congratulated Michelle Ott of Danvers and her husband, Michael, who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary recently.

2012-2013 officers for the alumni chapter are Sharon Hartzold, of Stanford, president; Michael Wheet, of Hopedale, vice president; Carrie Glaser, of Danvers, secretary; Michelle Ott, of Danvers, treasurer; Kyle Haning, of Delavan, reporter; and Don Begolka, of Lincoln, member at large. The vo-ag teacher at Olympia High School serves as adviser for the school and alumni FFA chapters.
