Bean and Sorrentino recognized at Illinois Emergency Management Conference

[September 11, 2012]  Two local emergency preparedness officials recently received recognition during the 16th annual Illinois Emergency Management Conference in Springfield. Shana Bean (at left in picture), of the Logan County Department of Public Health, received recognition for completing training leading to the Illinois Professional Emergency Manager accreditation, and Alana Sorrentino (right), of the Logan County Emergency Management Agency, was recognized for completing the Professional Development Series training.

The Illinois Professional Emergency Manager Accreditation consists of the completion of the Professional Development Series, additional online and classroom trainings, four written essays, and evidence of serving a lead role in a preparedness exercise. The Professional Development Series consists of completing seven online and six discussion-based classroom courses.

"These two young women not only represent the best in emergency preparedness in Logan County but in the state of Illinois," said Mark Hilliard, administrator of the health department.

Bean has been employed with the health department for the past four years as emergency response coordinator and Sorrentino with the Logan County EMA for two years as a hazmat specialist.
