2-vehicle fatal crash on Lincoln Parkway

[September 15, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police District 9 released the following accident report at 5:27 a.m. Saturday:

Incident: Two-vehicle crash involving a fatality

Location: Old Route 121 at Lincoln Parkway in Logan County

Date, time: Sept. 14, 8:38 p.m.

Individuals involved:

  • Unit 1 driver: Michael L. Foster, 65, Lincoln

  • Unit 2 driver: 43-year-old male, deceased (name withheld pending notification of next of kin), Hartsburg

  • Unit 2 passenger: 40-year-old female with life-threatening injuries (name withheld pending notification of next of kin), Palmyra

Assisting agencies: Lincoln Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District, Lincoln Fire Department, Logan County Paramedic Association, Logan County coroner's office

Narrative: On Friday at approximately 8:38 p.m., Unit 1, a white Chevrolet truck, was traveling southbound on Old Route 121, nearing the intersection with Lincoln Parkway. Unit 2, a red Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was traveling northbound, nearing the same intersection. Unit 1 initiated a left turn onto Lincoln Parkway in front of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 2 was unable to avoid a collision and struck the passenger side of Unit 1.

The driver of Unit 2 was pronounced dead on the scene by the Logan County coroner's office. The Unit 2 passenger was transported to Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Unit 1 driver was transported to Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
