LYF 4th grade defeats the undefeated Springfield

[September 24, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Lincoln LYF fourth-grade team defeated the Springfield Wildcats 18-16 Sunday in Springfield to bring their record to an impressive 7-0.

The Springfield team they beat had not lost in three years. With that win, Lincoln finished first in the league and plays for the championship Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at Eaton Fields. The team is trying to become the first undefeated team in fourth-grade Lincoln Youth Football history.

Lincoln was led by Stephen "Thunder" Gleason, who had 190 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Leading the way upfront for him were Tanner Strampp, Karson Bonaparte, Ethan Trimpe and Logan McDonald. Gleason had five tackles on defense. Seth Tungate had three tackles, Bonaparte and Trimpe four tackles, and Drew Singleton had two, including a touchdown/game-saving tackle. Keagan Ferguson had a tackle and a fumble recovery.
