[April 01, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- Anyone who likes architecture, history and Illinois can enjoy all three at once with a new screen saver that showcases some of the state's most eye-catching historic buildings.

The new screen saver from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency displays local landmarks, buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places and buildings deemed eligible for the register.

Each picture was chosen by IHPA staff as part of a "best of" photography series. A wide variety of properties, locations, architectural styles and eras are represented in the collection.

The screen saver is free and can be downloaded at www.illinoishistory.gov/ps. It has 58 images now and will be updated occasionally with new pictures. All images are owned by the Historic Preservation Agency.

Mike Jackson, head of the agency's Preservation Services Division, said the project grew out of preparations for a new agency website. "We started to think about ways to make it more visually interesting," said Jackson. "With a new website and a great image collection, the screen saver emerged as an easy way to combine the two for a public benefit."
