[April 09, 2013]  VINCENNES, Ind. -- The Lincoln College men's and women's track and field team got off to a good start at the Bill Smith Open hosted by Vincennes University. There was no team score for this invitational meet, but the Lynx had many solid performers.

In the 100, Mike Garza placed third and Steven Hartzell placed fifth. Norvel Mohammed won both the 200 and the 400. Jordan Staley won the 5,000. In the 110 hurdles, Austin Johnson was fourth and Adrain Jackson was fifth. Johnson was first in the 400 hurdles, and Jackson was second. The men's 4x100 of Garza, Hartzell, Penrod and Mohammed was second. The men dominated the long jump, with Hartzell placing first, Demetrius Carr second, Shane Ford seventh and Mike Garza eighth. Carr also placed second in the triple jump while Shane Ford placed sixth. Johnson placed third in the javelin.

On the women's side, Angela Pool won the 100, followed by Darshay Wallace in second, Janell Cross fourth, Teandria Buliox sixth and Caresse Daniel seventh. In the 200, Latasha Fizer came in first, with Darshay Wallace fourth, Tykeshia Thompson fifth, Buliox seventh and Tenishia Humes eighth. Thompson also won the 400. Victoria Heller was fourth in the 5,000. Martina Hodge was fourth in the 100 hurdles and Brianna Johnson was sixth. The women's 4x100 of Buliox, Daniel, Cross and Wallace was second. Edraniel Tookes was fourth in the disk and fifth in the javelin.
