[April 24, 2013]  COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Gov. Nikki Haley has signed legislation to give the Boeing Co. $120 million in incentives for its expansion plans in the state.

Haley's spokesman Rob Godfrey told The Associated Press that the Republican governor signed the bill into law Tuesday afternoon.

The measure moved quickly through the Legislature after Chicago-based Boeing announced two weeks ago it would invest another $1 billion and create 2,000 new jobs over eight years in North Charleston. The House gave final approval last Thursday.

The borrowing bill covers Boeing's upfront costs of buying and improving the land. The company's complex in North Charleston already employs about 6,000 people.

The company said last month it planned to lay off about 800 workers in the Puget Sound area of Washington by the end of the year.
