Memorial's Transplant 5K registration now open

[August 02, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Alan G. Birtch, MD, Center for Transplant Services at Memorial Medical Center is now accepting registrations for its ninth annual 5K run and walk, scheduled for Sept. 28 in Springfield's Washington Park.

More than 500 people participated in last year's event.

This is the first Transplant Services 5K that will be a Springfield Road Runners Club points race and will be chip-timed. All Springfield Road Runners Club members receive a $5 discount on their registration fee.

The registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for 12-year-olds and younger.

To register online or to print out a registration form (PDF) to mail in, visit MemorialTransplantServices.com. Register by Sept. 13 to be guaranteed to receive a T-shirt. Participants can also register on the day of the event at 8 a.m.

Participants will meet at the picnic shelter area near the tennis courts and playground. The run and walk will start promptly at 9 a.m.

Proceeds go to the hospital's transplant fund, which assists transplant patients with emergent needs and provides education for patients and staff.
