Thursday evening the 40th annual Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival got off to a terrific start with media night. The skies were somewhat cloudy, but the winds were mild and so were the temperatures.

Among the balloonists who came out to the airport for the exclusive media guests were local balloonist Seth Goodman with his new balloon Done Deal!, pilot Larry Owen with his balloon S.S. Rolo Fitzpug, pilot Betsy Kleiss with her balloon Bottoms Up, new-to-the-festival pilot Jared Miller with his Fiery Gizzard, and the guests of honor, this year's grand marshals of the Friday pilots parade, Jim and Nancy Ireland with their balloon Sunglow.

The Irelands were asked to snip the ribbon on the first official event of the weekend. They will also be on hand at another ribbon-cut Friday afternoon prior to the parade that will run a course from Wyatt Avenue to the Logan County Airport.
