Kenneth Mayes

[August 27, 2013]  LINCOLN -- Kenneth L. Mayes, 79, of Lincoln died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at 11:45 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

LINCOLN-Kenneth L. Mayes, 79, of Lincoln died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013 at St. Clara’s Manor, Lincoln, IL.

Kenny was born January 30, 1934 in Palmyra at home, the son of Albert Leroy and Mildred Pinkerton Mayes. He married Geraldine "Geri" Rogers Williams on March 30, 1985 at Lincoln Christian Church. She survives in Lincoln.

Kenny is survived by his mother of Palmyra; two stepsons: Stephen Guy of Lincoln; Edward (Melody) Williams of Mt. Pulaski; two step granddaughters: Peggy Guy of Sterling, IL and Molly Williams of Mt. Pulaski; three sisters: Jeanette Sorrells of Portland, OR; Helen (Dean) Stayton of Carlinville, IL; Sarah (Larry) Hagaman of Springfield, IL He was preceded in death by his father and one brother: Henry.

Kenny had worked as a postal clerk for the US Post Office for 31 years. He had worked four years as security guard at Lehn & Fink. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He attended Lincoln Christian College three years and graduated from Palmyra Northwestern in 1952. Kenny was a member of the Tri Police, Lincoln Coin Club, Lifetime member of VFW; the Lincoln Elks; Lincoln Prayer Breakfast/Bible Study; Lifetime member of Oasis Senior Center; he was a great sports fan and statistician keeping records of all wins-losses of all high schools in Illinois Basketball. He collected Native American artifacts, coins, stamps, and elephants. He was a big Cub fan and he loved to travel.

Services for Kenny will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Lincoln Christian Church with Paul Boatman officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials may be given to Lincoln Christian Church, or Oasis Senior Center, or Safe Haven Hospice. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
