[August 27, 2013]  Last week Gov. Pat Quinn announced a capital investment of more than $17.3 million for a construction project involving several bridges in Logan County. The project is part of the governor's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"This construction project will improve several bridges along Interstate 55," Quinn said. "Additionally, it will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well."

Twelve bridges along Interstate 55 will be repaired, including deck replacement, joint repairs and concrete overlay. The bridges are located west of Business 55, north of Lincoln to County Highway 6 in Atlanta.

Sangamo Construction Co. of Springfield was the lowest of three bidders for the work at $17,315,475. The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the project.

This project is part of Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history and one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
