The closure of a museum prior to a move and reopening is not
unusual, said museum director Ron Keller. "This is a critical stage.
During this time period we will be moving our museum pieces, and
final fabrication of all the museum elements takes place," he
explained. In 2011, the college contracted with Taylor Studios in
Rantoul to design the new Abraham Lincoln-themed museum. The new
location will feature more exhibit space; conservation-friendly
displays, archives and storage; and an interactive experience that
Taylor Studios describes as a unique "life-review" of Abraham
Lincoln's life.
For Lincoln fans who don't want to wait till spring, an exclusive
walk-through of the new museum space is being offered to everyone
attending the Grand Soirée, the Lincoln Heritage Museum's annual
fundraiser, on Sept. 28. While some advanced museum features,
including the audio and video components, will not yet be installed,
the walk-through will provide a good preview of what's coming next
year. For more information about the Grand Soirée and museum
walk-through, or to make reservations, call the Lincoln Heritage
Museum at 217-732-3155, ext. 295.

"We apologize for any inconvenience the temporary closure of the
museum might cause," said Keller. "However, once the museum reopens
in April, people will be amazed at the difference. This facility
will be a highlight of our community and an impressive, immersive
museum which will bring visitors back again and again."
