Steven Borbely

[August 26, 2013]  LINCOLN -- Steven J. Borbely, 69, of Lincoln, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 9:50 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Lincoln- Steven J. Borbely, 69, passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Steven was born on May 18, 1944 in Grand Rapids MI, son of Joseph and Helen Sopp Borbely. He was united in marriage to Johanna "Jody" Mason on November 22, 1969 in Manito, IL. She survives him in Lincoln. Other survivors include his sons: James (Hope) Borbely of Champaign, IL; Joseph Borbely of Lincoln; grandchildren: Jonah and Ava; his brother: James (Arlene) Borbely of Catlin, IL; his sister: Mary Ann (Michael) King of Lakeville, MN; and his niece and nephews: Tim (Krista) Borbely of Champaign; Andy Borbely of New Orleans, LA; Mandy (John) Nelson of Bayport, MN; and Brian (Laura) King of Bloomington, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Director

Steven graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Science degree in speech pathology from Western Illinois University. Steven worked at Lincoln Developmental Center for 13 years before working as a staff representative for AFSCME and retired in 2003.

Steven enjoyed spending time with his family and especially with his grandchildren. His favorite pastimes included fishing, traveling, and cooking. He was active with the Boy Scouts, he coached Little League, he was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he held many different offices and especially enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Services for Steven will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln. A visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August, 29, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln and an hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church or to the Hospice of Central Illinois.
