[December 03, 2013]  WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is hosting Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos at the White House, just days after the Latin American leader announced his intent to seek re-election in the midst of peace talks with the nation's leading rebel group.

The White House says Tuesday's meeting has been planned for some time and is meant to focus on the growing economic relationship between the two countries.

Obama is expected to give his support for the peace talks between Santos' government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

The Obama administration has been phasing out U.S. security aid to Colombia in favor of economic development assistance and promotion of human rights, particularly in areas formerly controlled by rebel forces.
