[December 04, 2013]  Main Street Lincoln is gearing up for the city's annual Christmas parade. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. As in recent years, the route will start at the corner of South Kickapoo and Wyatt before heading downtown and around the square.

This year's theme is "A Picture Perfect Christmas." For one lucky little girl, this is sure to be just that. Main Street Lincoln hosted a Facebook contest in which parents entered children's names for a chance to ride in Santa's sleigh. The winner was drawn Monday, and 7-year-old Ivy Sandel received a special birthday surprise. She is very excited to ride in Santa's new sleigh this year, sponsored by Lincoln Elks and Seth Goodman, ME Realty.

Main Street Lincoln has once again partnered with local businesses to host appearances by Santa Claus. Parents are welcome to bring their children to visit with Santa and take advantage of photo opportunities. The first opportunity to visit with Santa will be in the courthouse rotunda immediately following the Christmas parade. Several area businesses will be hosting more visits with Santa each Saturday between now and Christmas. To see Santa's schedule, visit www.mainstreetlincoln.com.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the stores and restaurants in downtown Lincoln during this holiday season. Decorations have been hung near the courthouse with care, and holiday lighting and music will be played for shoppers to enjoy as they look for those special gifts to share this Christmas.
