Charles Cummings

[December 09, 2013]  MOUNT PULASKI — Charles William Cummings, 91, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at 3:13 a.m. at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Mt Pulaski- Charles William Cummings, 91, passed away at 3:13 A.M. on December 9, 2013 at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Charles was born on April 22, 1922 in Winchester, IL; son of Clayton and Minnie Underwood Cummings. He married Dolores Beidler-Ayers on November 1, 1974 in Lincoln, IL, she survives him in Lincoln. Charles was in the United States Marine Corps for four years and three months and in the United States Air Force for nine and a half years. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, USS Mustin D-413 and Hornet CV-8 Association. He was a survivor of the sinking of the Aircraft Carrier Hornet during WWII as well as the attack on Pearl Harbor. He retired as an airline pilot and flight engineer for Eastern Airlines.

He is survived by four children: Robert, Richard, Mark, and Deborah Cummings all of California; one step-son: Michael Ayers of Fithian, IL; two step-grandchildren: Craig and Cody Ayers. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter Cummings, and sister Dorothy Markelie.

Services for Charles will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 12, 2013 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt Pulaski with Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial at Mt Pulaski Cemetery will follow the service with full military rites. Memorials may be given to Humane Society of Logan County.
