Gov. Quinn announces $4.5 million for construction projects in central Illinois

Projects will improve state's infrastructure and create construction jobs

[December 27, 2013]  SPRINGFIELD — Last week, Gov. Pat Quinn announced capital investments of more than $4.5 million for construction projects in central Illinois, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of the governor's commitment to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

These projects will make transportation safer and more efficient in central Illinois," Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy."

The projects will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Christian County

A bridge carrying Illinois Route 48 over Bear Creek about one mile southwest of Palmer will be replaced and erosion repair will be done at the Illinois 48 ramp at Taylorville for $1,924,264 by Plocher Construction Co. of Highland, the lowest of four bidders.

Logan County

Interstate 55 will be patched at various locations for its entire length through Logan County for $166,796 by Kinney Contractors Inc. of Raymond, the lowest of three bidders.

Macon County

Two steel bridge structures on I-72 at Illinois Route 48 will be cleaned and painted for $531,000 by Venus Painting Co. of Valparaiso, Ind., the lowest of seven bidders.

Two steel bridge structures on U.S. Route 51 over Lake Decatur will be cleaned and painted for $235,560 by Madison Coatings Co. of Hammond, Ind., the lowest of seven bidders.

Montgomery County

I-55 from Litchfield to the Sangamon County line will be patched at various locations for $209,949 by Kinney Contractors of Raymond, the lowest of three bidders.

Morgan County

I-72 will be patched at various locations for its entire length through Morgan County by G.M. Sipes Construction of Rushville, the lowest of three bidders at $189,678.

Sangamon County

Shoulder replacement and patching will be done at various locations along I-55 from north of the Lake Springfield bridge to the Logan County line for $246,215 by G.M. Sipes Construction Inc. of Rushville, the lowest of three bidders.

Shoulder replacement and patching will be done at various locations along I-72 from the Morgan County line to just east of the I-72, I-55 interchange for $159,570 by G.M. Sipes Construction, the lowest of three bidders.

Shelby County

Three steel bridge structures will be cleaned and painted by Thomas Industrial Coatings Inc. of Pevely, Mo., the lowest of eight bidders at $510,719. The structures are on Illinois Route 16 in Shelbyville, on Illinois Route 128 about two miles southwest of Shelbyville and on Illinois Route 128 one mile southeast of Cowden.

A bridge carrying County Highway 30 over Robinson Creek about three miles southeast of Henton will be replaced for $392,498 by Depew and Owen Builders Inc. of Centralia, the lowest of seven bidders.

These projects are part of Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history and one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
